“We’re shipping faster, but I trust our decisions less.”
That’s what one PM told me after their team rolled out AI across the product workflow.
Their backlog was clearing. Tickets were closing. AI-generated ideas filled the roadmap. But no one was asking whether they should be building any of it. They were no longer short on speed, but they were starving for clarity.
That tension points to one of the most underappreciated effects of AI in product teams today. AI expands your inputs faster than your ability to interpret them. It removes much of the effort from analysis, but also removes the friction that once forced product teams to think. What used to take a few days of discussion, alignment, or exploration now becomes an automated summary or instant pattern match.
In the past, discovery was bottlenecked by bandwidth. Now, it is bottlenecked by discernment.
