> How did you decide to become a product manager?

When I first at O2 as a Business Analyst I would work with the old-school style “Product Owner” to document requirements and build products. It was whilst I was a BA that I got my first break as stepping into the shoes of a product manager and loved it – knowing that I was directly responsible for the customers experience really excited me and I’ve never looked back…

> What key people helped shape you into the product manager you are today?

Two people really stand out – one of my early bosses whilst at O2 (Ish Sidat) had an incredible eye for detail and a knack of pulling meaningful insight from vast amounts of data, which shaped and enhanced my appreciation and usage of data. My boss whilst at Walmart/Asda (Kate Cuthbertson) was without a doubt the most customer-centric person I’ve worked with. Everything Kate did was gleaned from customers, developed with customers, validated by customers and ultimately loved by customers. I was really fortunate to grow as a product manager under both their stewardship, as it has allowed me to balance the data and analytics available against being thoroughly customer centric.
