Does anyone know of a good free wiki site I could use for a class so a group can collaborate through text and also copy and paste pictures and then save the documents?

What do you believe was so alarming about Google Site privacy? I use it and have read through it and found nothing alarming.

Hiya,

do you have any list of all your free online wiki reviews? or a tag? I can't seem to find them without a whole lot of clicking, as searching for them finds lots of other things that reference them. I'd like to link as well as read.

I notice that you haven't mentioned the search much in your reviews, and I may be able to supplement there. I did an analysis of the MediaWiki search and think it stinks (my reasons are at http://www.searchtools.com/analysis/mediawiki-search/). I may be able to take a look at these and come up with some notes on what they do well and/or badly.

Yours in the service of sharing info

Hi Jeremy,

This is great series of articles and a comprehensive roundup of the current options.

I just wanted to let you know about Swirrl, my company's new hosted wiki service (released last week): http://www.swirrl.com

Instead of just allowing users to create text entries, it also allows the creation of what we call 'Data Set' entries using a spreadsheet-like user interface. But it’s not just another simple online spreadsheet.

Using contextual clues provided by the user, Swirrl builds up a picture of your data and it’s structure behind the scenes, allowing some powerful searching and analysis. So, it’s it easy for the user to add semantic information to their data in the context of their normal work, with no need for any manual entry of semantic mark-up.

So what’s the point of this? Well, with Swirrl we hope to help make the information held in an organization more accessible and exploitable. We hope that our approach provides a simple and effective way to collaborate and share information. With our Data Sets feature we aim to combine the power of a database and the flexibility of spreadsheets with the collaboration potential of a wiki.

Please sign up for free at http://www.swirrl.com/wiki/new and tell us what you think. We're very keen to get feedback and comments.

Thanks.
Ric (a founder of Swirrl)

Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for posting your comprehensive review. I found it very helpful and am seriously considering adding sample material to PBWiki to see how I like it. I'll primarily use it to document and organize financial planning research and procedures.

It is a pity that you have not evaluated nor even mentioned Wikidot (http://www.wikidot.com) - one of the de facto most popular free wiki farms. You are welcome to visit us anytime.

Hi Jeremy -

I hope you'll consider Wikispaces in the next round! With over 1.1 million members, we're quite a bit bigger than Alexa might lead you to believe. Keep an eye out for what we're up to at http://blog.wikispaces.com.

Best,
James
